Massachusetts "Marriages:" A Reality Check
And A Rare Opportunity!

Please Help Us Take Advantage of It!

Richard Wilkins, Chairman, Defend Marriage

Dear Defender of Marriage;

With Massachusetts beginning to legally “marry” same sex couples the United States now becomes only the fourth country in the world where this is legal.

Based on the responses we have been getting over the past couple of days, this development in Massachusetts has been a major “reality check” for millions of Americans. And that gives us a rare opportunity to build support for marriage and the family.

Until Massachusetts began legally “marrying” same sex couples, many Americans who support marriage and the family had not really focused on the very real threats to these vital institutions.

For some, these threats were only hypothetical—until now. Others clearly had been discounting the significance of San Francisco and a handful of other jurisdictions issuing same sex “marriage” licenses over the past few months because it was pretty clear that these actions were in violation of state law.

For millions of these American, all this has now changed. They now understand that the threats are very real and many of them are now willing to take action to defend marriage and the family.

This gives those of us committed to defending marriage and the family a rare opportunity to build support for a constitutional amendment that will define marriage as only the union of a man and a woman. We now have their attention. That is the essential first step in helping them understand that amending the Constitution is the only certain way available to us to defend marriage and the family in the United States.

But to take full advantage of this opportunity, we need your help, especially your financial support.

Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. Although we could not prevent same sex “marriages” from taking place in Massachusetts, we knew it was likely to happen and so we developed a plan to try to take advantage of it. Over the next few weeks we will be starting some new projects and initiatives to help educate the public and elected officials on the need for an amendment and to bring grass roots pressure to bear help pass it.

It will take two things to make these new efforts truly effective, however. One is your participation. In the coming weeks, we will be suggesting some additional specific things you can do to help.

But the other thing we need to be most effective is your financial support.

So, I am asking you to make as generous a contribution as you can. Your contribution is tax deductible and, as explained below, you now have the option of making either a one time contribution or you can make an automatic credit card contribution each month.

Many people find that making a monthly contribution is an easy way to help them budget their financial support for the effort to defend marriage and the family. For our part, these monthly contributions help us better budget for upcoming projects and activities.

Defending marriage and the family will probably be the most important social fight any of us will ever be in. Whether we win or lose will have a direct and permanent impact on our children and grandchildren and future generations of Americans.

For their sake, alone, this is a fight that we must win!

Together, we can--and we will!

Won’t you help in this vital effort?

Sincerely,

Richard G. Wilkins
Chairman

P.S. One final thought. The proponents of same sex marriage realize that this is the showdown battle in their relentless efforts to re-engineer our society to their desires and they are spending millions of dollars to achieve their ends. As you decide how to help us, I hope you will ask yourself this question: If we cannot hold the line here and now in defense of marriage and the family, our most basic and vital institutions, just where will we be able to hold the line? And if we fail now, would you want to live in the kind of society we will be passing on to our children? Then, please ask yourself: How much is it worth to you to defend marriage and the family for the sake of your children and future generations?

We Need Your Financial Support to Help Defend Marriage and the Family!

Defend Marriage is a project of United Families International (UFI), a 501 (c)(3) organization, so your contribution is tax deductible. If you would like to designate your contribution to UFI to go entirely to the Defend Marriage Project, you can do so by making a contribution that ends with 4 cents, i.e. $25.04, $173.04, $1,000,000.04 and so on. That will “flag” it for Defend Marriage.

There are several ways you can contribute to our efforts.

You can easily and securely make a contribution online, either a one time contribution or you can set up a monthly contribution. If you select the monthly contribution option, each month UFI will charge your credit card for the amount you designate until you inform us that you no longer wish to contribute. Click here.

If you prefer not to contribute on line, you can print out a mail-in contribution form here. This form gives you the option of contributing by check or credit card, either to make a one time contribution or you can use the form to set up a monthly contribution. Click here.

Thank you in advance for your generous support in this important effort!
